Hey guys... i've been searching for the best birds songs, and i was hoping some of you could share your favorites... So far i think the 3/29/90 show with Branford is the best I've heard. Any suggestions?

In a short while, someone will be telling you that 6/22/73 is the best Birdsong. They may even post a link, and it might be the best electric performance of that song?

But I really dig the acoustic renditions, including this emotive and extremely well jammed performance...

Interesting point you bring up about comparing electric versus acoustic versions.

Bird Song is also one of the few songs I can think of that the Dead played in more than one key signature. The early versions (think of the Garcia album) were played in D. Later versions (like the one on Without a Net) are played in E.

Each has its own nuance, I think,

Hi Jim,

Sharking has slowed a bit, but we harvested this smallish Mako last Thursday, and caught a nice Bigeye at Hudson Canyon on Saturday morning.

You and any other kind heads in our area are welcome to join us on Thursdays shark trip...

Also, the acoustic one from the Melk Weg is sweet and stony:

I love that Dancin'->Birdsong opener from 7/15/84. I only wish Jerry were a little higher in the mix. He's really buried in the beginning of the set. (Phil, on the other hand, is front and center!)

Here's one in which Jerry apparently wanted the entire first set to consist only of Birdsong!

If you like to hear him "go exploring" this one fits the bill:

Kind of out of left field, but I remember the Bird Song form Roanoke 7/7/87 as being pretty good. Not the longest by any means, but it has always stuck in my mind since that night.

I really like the one with Jerry, Bobby, and Kahn from 12-17-87. I think Jerry's voice is just haunting on this acoustic version. No I don't have a link sorry.
